Hello Everyone,

It has almost been a year since I have posted a blog, and I want to try and keep it up. Whether it is sharing photos or just a personal journal for myself. This blog will be mostly photos, but I am leaving to kayak in ecuador in a couple days, I will try to have a more detailed blog for that trip. It is way more exciting then school anyways. Since I last logged off, I was on my way to Nepal with Manas to paddle and hike in Nepal.

After Nepal me and manas went to New Dehli for about a week to visit some family, then the plan was to fly to Kenya and bus to Tanzania to meet the rest of the family for christmas but manas got detained in India because he was travelling with an inreach, i definitly felt bad for leaving him. but didn't want to miss out on the flight. Also, because I had an inreach the whole time too. Good thing we have family in India to help him out.

Tanzania was manas' dream come true. He has wanted to go since he was little. It was an insane experience, we had an extensive safari in the serenghetti (spaghetti) and we also hiked mount meru. (4000m ? pretty high). After Tanzinia I had to hit the books.

The winter semester at school was a great time, though. Our apartment on Colonial was awesome. Isey, Jasper and I always had meals ready for each other. Jasper made some sweet furniture for the apartment too.

My favourite class was probably Sustainable analysis of mining systemes, It was sick I killed two birds with one stone and wrote two papers, each worth 50% in different classes about the impacts of a nickel mine in indonesia, Weda Bay.

In the summer there was some time to relax in manitoba at our family cabin. We also had a big family gathering on my dads side to celbrate the life of my grandma Irene Toews. It was nice to hear stories of my grandma and also of my dad, steve and lara growing up. To sum it up she was the boss, and always took care of things, and did them on her own time

She was probably the most laid back grandma out there.

I remember when she was visiting the Yukon and me manas, sol and some other people were taking bong rips in the backyard, and she walked out and didn't care at all. Just let us be.

After Manitoba, it was time to grind. I worked the summer in Golden, BC, working on the Kicking Horse River. I set this goal to work on the Kicking horse because it was the next step in becoming a better raft guide because I would paddle big rapids constantly and meet guides from around the world. I would usually raft a pretty solid class four set twice a day. The kicking horse is not a forgiving river. We only had one flip.

The training to work on this river was shitty. Ontop of saftey, the company expected guides to go beyond to provide a "great experience" and we had to follow fairly specific routines and lines on the river. The first month was like an unpaid boot camp, super ass and probably the most broke i've felt. I was stressing out so much about being able to afford school. I guess thats being a raft guide. lol.

I only got into my groove in Golden after a month or so meeting friends and getting to know the town. It was hard to leave. Also working 7 days a week kinda sucked ass. After that I was on my way to school.

I drove the ron (99 camry) from Golden to Montreal with a quick pitstop in ottawa to kayak and visit isey. Then moved into the new place and started school.

This past semester is almost over. It was busy, and I focused on the school work quite a bit.

All my classes are mostly project based, for my capstone Phillippe C and I are trying to improve the Avalauncher, a device that shoots an explosive to trigger avalanches. I chose this project to learn more about this industry where guiding and engineering intersect. For instrumentation and control we built a snow maker that would evenly distribute snow (sand) and turn off with temperature sensor. GIS we took some tracks with a GPS and determined the best routes depending off preference. For Mech design of machine we have to design a gear box for a wind turbine. Then i also had a soci class.

On top of that though I am the U4 rep for the BioResource engineering Student Society, definitely the chillest position, and i am also lowkey a mentor for this bridge to campus thing, my mentee highkey ghosted me though.

Then more exciting I am gearing up for an idependent study project where I am trying to improve/make recomendations to KDFNs annual carcass survey. I have been interviewing many experts feels great to talk to all the smart fish people out there.
